All good things must come to an end...

What a great stretch of weather. A little on the cool side but plenty of sunshine over the last few days. Tomorrow looks like we can expect more of the same. The temp will be off from the seasonal average for a daytime high (23) but we should see a lot of sunshine to make it feel a bit warmer. With very little cloud cover expect a high to very high UV index tomorrow so cover up and enjoy the sun…some rain is on our doorstep. That low to the west will likely kick in some showers as early as tomorrow night. Expect showers for Sunday and most likely Monday. Next week has the potential for a wet start. But after this nice little sunny streak, rain is probably a good thing. Oh and if you're looking for something to do tomorrow, click here to check out this great home and garden tour put on by the folks at Peterborough Green-Up.

Hot coffee and a cool night.

Well today is a big day at Tim Horton's...CAMP DAY! Get your 'double double' today and feel good about sending some deserving kids to camp. Our new sports guy Tyler Calver and myself will be serving coffee at the Monaghan/Lansdowne location from 1pm - 2pm. (Please be patient...service may be a little slow). You may want to order up a hot beverage because some cool weather is on the way...

Today the high is 4 degrees off the seasonal average and tonight will be chilly. Expect a low of 4 degrees in Peterborough (we should be around 10) and cooler to the north. After a few possible showers in Bancroft today the sky will clear and the temperature will drop to a possible low of 0. With clear skies there is no cloud blanket (clouds do act like a blanket) to trap in the sun's energy we gained during the day. Soil is bad at storing energy. It literally radiates back to space. So a Frost Warning has been issued for Bancroft and Haliburton tonight from Environment Canada. Here in Peterborough there is a chance for frost (depending on the low) but as you head south toward the lake Port Hope and Cobourg will be just fine. That lake is deep and therefore stores solar energy a lot better than soil. The lake keeps you warmer in the overnight. To be safe, I would cover up the garden tonight in the north. See you at 6pm!

2009 Hurricane Season

Well we are now officially into day 2 of the Atlantic hurricane season and (even though we have already seen a tropical depression) this year could be busy but at least has the potential to see a reduction in storm activity. Here is what the National Hurricane Center is predicting:

- 9 to 14 Named Storms
- 4 to 7 Hurricanes
- 1 to 3 Major Hurricanes

So why the possible reduction in activity? Well there are a number of contributing factors. A developing El Nino could knock down the number of storms (still too early to call) and cooler waters in the eastern tropical Atlantic could also be a big help. Cooler water means less fuel for these storms to develop. Again it’s still too early to be sure how the season will play out but it’s always fun to see if your name shows up on the list. So here are the list of names issued for the 2009 season:

1)Ana
2)Bill
3)Claudette
4)Danny
5)Erika
