Exit Strategy
Finally an exit strategy! No I’m not about to discuss mid-east military policy…we’re still talking weather here. I’m talking about that stubborn low that has been just sitting and spinning over the region. That upper level low that has been here for a number of days now. That same low responsible for the cool down, the rain and even that hail earlier this week near Lindsay. Yes, that same area of low pressure that almost put a damper on the fireworks and our Canada Day parade here in Peterborough. (We did catch a break there). Well, get ready to say goodbye to an old friend. That high over Newfoundland that was blocking the low’s departure will do so no more and that massive dip in the jet stream over the province (or should I say under) looks to level out. We still have a bit of wet weather ahead of us but at least some sunshine is just around the corner. Goodbye? More like good riddance!

Canada Day!
Tomorrow is Canada Day…just in case you forgot. Yeah right eh? How can we forget about a day off? Well it’s true that for many Canadians tomorrow is a day off work and a chance to celebrate the birth of our nation. Events, activities and parties are being held across the region and these events, for the most part, are all outdoors. The fireworks being planned for tomorrow night in Del Crary Park are a prime example. Here’s the problem…Mother Nature isn’t taking any time off.
That upper level low that has been bring showers, thundershowers and even hail (for those living in the Lindsay area) continues to “sit and spin.” And area high pressure over Newfoundland & Labrador continues to block this low making for a slow departure. So what does this mean for Canada’s big day? Well, you can expect weather very similar to today. Some sunny breaks with mainly cloudy conditions and (with the atmospheric instability) the chance for thundershowers and heavier rain. Let's keep in mind (before we get too depressed) that Environment Canada has called for a 40% chance of rain.
My advice for tomorrow is to listen to The Wolf and Kruz radio for any Canada Day cancellations. The silver lining here is that this low looks to clear out by the weekend…we hope. Oh and Canada, happy 142!!!
